| SOUPSONGS:
THE MUSIC OF ROBERT WYATT Saturday
November 4th – Brighton Corn Exchange Theatre “People
have travelled from all over England and beyond to hear this music and
his songs trip, bounce and slide off the stage into eager ears.” Straight
No Chaser Wyatt
is delighted to have such distinguished musicians performing his music
– “I feel like Cinderella whose pumpkin has turned into a
stagecoach”. The concert will feature work from Robert’s solo
albums, ranging from ‘Rock Bottom’ and ‘Ruth is Stranger than
Richard’ to‘Shleep’. A new live recording of ‘Soupsongs’
has just been released on Jazzprint which “captures the poetic
radicalism of the original” says The Guardian, adding ‘the ensemble
playing is luxuriously textured.” Singers
Julie Tippetts and Ian Maidman handle the challenge of substituting
Wyatt’s own vocal plaintiveness – Tippetts with an astonishing blend
of raw bluesy power and yielding delicacy, Maidman’s closer to
Wyatt’s own downbeat chorister-like quality. Don’t
miss this unique opportunity to see and hear a concert that has been
received to great acclaim by critics and with warmth and affection by
audiences! The concert starts at 8.30pm on Saturday 4 November, tickets are £12 (£10.50) available from The Dome Box Office, Brighton 01273 709709. |
