A Short Break
20 odd minutes at home
oh...yes... In other words, take five,
a space made vacant between daily
tasks, literally, a vacation.
Some forty years ago, I was taken
on holiday, to another Atlantic coast,
to Portugal, and discovered that
there are different ways of behaving.
('IS EVERY MOMENT FOREVER?')
A few disorientating images remain,
a few ghosts: the boy in the water,
that was me (the little man, in the
bowler hat, paddling on the shore,
circulated on my earlier Rough
Trade records, could that have been
another me?)
But right here. right now, no studio
cosmetics, just five abstracted
sketches, postcards from the home
front (I have to take now and then,
some time out for a short break.)
