bert jansch, a founding member of pentangle, passed away at age 67.
a virtuoso acoustic guitarist who released many fine albums and influenced many musicians.
i’d be willing to bet there are more than a few fans among wyatters.

yes, zeebras, i am one of them.

bert jansch was a great one. in the seventies, when i was a teenager, i bought not only glamrock, pink floyd, genesis, yes and westcoast stuff. i also discovered the beauty of folkmusic. pentangles’s basket of light was one of the albums i bought at that time.

to be true, i forgot how good pentangle’s music was and rediscovered pentangle and bert jansch only because of the release of jansch’s the black swan album in 2006.

a salute to a great musician!

‘The Black Swan’ is the late Bert Jansch’s late masterpiece. It reintroduced me to his early work, work I first heard when I was a teenager cramped into the sun room of a suburban house at the bottom of the world. The guitar playing was fast yet there was so much space between the notes, space I could move through with something approximating grace.
